We are currently seeking a Systems Accountant based at our Lockington office near Derby. Reporting to the Finance Systems Manager, you will provide system administration of key business systems including Sun Systems (Finance System), Cognos (Group consolidation and reporting) and FinDocs (Procurement system), under the leadership of the Finance Systems Manager.

The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Day to day management of system administration, including:
  • Administration of the Chart of Accounts and Analysis Codes
  • Access control
  • Diagnostics of errors with data transfer between systems
  • Front facing support – being the initial port of call with systems queries and taking part in working groups etc.
  • Undertaking audits reviewed of the controls in line with group policy and implementing control points
  • Supporting projects as part of the Continuous Improvement of systems
  • Co-ordinate with external 3rd party vendors and with internal teams (IT, Accounts Payable) to bring systems issues / queries to a speedy resolution
  • Provide training on systems to new users
  • Supporting the documenting of the business processes in the usage of the systems
  • Bringing best practice and a view on how to get the best out of the Finance and related systems
  • Escalating key risk and issues and helping to own their resolution
  • Communicating out and making end users aware of changes to the system
  • Other duties as requested by line manager
  • You will possess the following experience:

  • Qualified or part qualified Accountant with experience of managing systems
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplined project teams in a large business
  • Data Management of data relationships, definitions, and the resolution of data integrity issues
  • Building reports visualising financial data for a variety of stakeholders, using a variety of data sources.
  • Supporting the setup of new business processes and embedding them into Business as Usual
  • Experience of systems implementations an advantage
  • Finance system experience – SunSystems, Cognos and Findocs experience is desired, however, training will be provided if other systems have been used
  • Project Management and/or Continuous improvement experience i.e. Lean
  • Customer services and/or help desk experience
  • You will also possess the following key skills and competencies:

    Analytical thinking – Able to use a problem-solving framework to be able to identify, resolve and convey complex problems simply to aid in rapid issue resolution. Ability to take a step back and look at the bigger picture around what is trying to be achieved for the short and the long term

    Decision making – Can make rational and informed decisions on the best course of action to be able to take the initiative, drive action and be responsible for the consequences of the decisions made

    Planning and organising – Are self-managing and can think ahead to establish an effective, efficient, and appropriate courses of action. Ability to prioritise and plan activities by considering all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resources requirements

    Resilience – Can maintain personal effectiveness by dealing with setbacks or when dealing with difficult situations. Can demonstrate an approach to work that is characterised by commitment and motivation

    Communication -The ability to get one’s message understood clearly by adopting a range of communication styles, tools, and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information

    Managing Relationships – Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people and within a team. Ability to manage difficult stakeholders and build relationships with people from a range of different functions

    Responsibilities

    • Able to supervise a team of junior engineers, technicians and/or graduates
    • Assist with training, undertake quality assurance and coordinate the workload of junior team members

    • Liaise with stakeholders including public, local, client officers and elected representatives
    • Ensuring all project files are up to date and comply with the QA system and assist in developing improved procedures in the service area
    • Responding to client and customer enquires

    Requirements

    • Relevant degree or HND/HNC (preferably in engineering) or equivalent
    • 2-3 years of relevant experience
    • Understanding of highways and traffic engineering techniques and principles
    • Experience in highways related AutoCAD design
    • Familiarity with TMA 2004, DMRB, MfS and the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals

    • Communicate with customer’s representative on site regarding site specific issues
    • Perform Site Surveys in a timely manner to ensure schedules are met
