We are looking for an experienced Renewable and Energy Storage Project Developer with an engineering, environmental or business-related degree. Ideally the candidate would have more than 3 years’ experience in the energy sector, specifically in the early-stage development of energy projects, including origination, land negotiations and managing the development process through to reaching a Financial Investment Decision. They will be required to travel to visit potential sites on occasions therefore a driver’s license is required. There will be a need to be flexible as the nature of the business is project dominated and hence the role moulds to fit the specific requirements of the project.
Summary of tasks: Project Developer
Reporting to the Project Director and working with the Project Development Team, the successful candidate would be required to identify and assess sites and opportunities appropriate to Forsa’s Energy Storage and Renewable Energy Generation businesses. This will include carrying out desktop searches, site visits and the initial assessment to determine availability of grid connections, land ownership and any key developmental constraints such as planning. The role is an integral part of the Development Team and will work closely with the team on all aspects of Project Development.
The role will require the successful candidate to be involved in:
- Supporting the Project Director in the development of active projects including supporting the planning process, land agreements, grid/gas connections and liaising with the construction team to confirm designs and layouts.
- Energy Storage and Renewable Portfolio Growth – identifying and securing new target energy projects for the company by desktop site identification, analysis & screening (greenfield or early stage M&A).
- Commercial Negotiations – be responsible for the commercial negotiations with landowners / land agents / consultants to secure the development / wider land rights for the company’s energy projects. Work closely with internal and external property experts to solve complex property workstreams on energy storage and renewable projects.
- Managing internal relations – building internal relationships across the organisation. Acting as primary point of contact for the company on the development of new project opportunities in line with the Forsa strategy.
- Legal Agreements – working with our internal and external property and legal teams to secure all necessary lands rights are acquired for energy projects in origination and within the existing portfolio.
- Network building – building the necessary networks of land agents, landowners, consultants, suppliers, etc in the UK to meet year on year targets.
- Strategy Development & Implementation – work with colleagues to refine and implement the energy storage and renewable strategy in the UK.
We will provide suitable upfront training in the processes we use to develop opportunities from the ground up, including training in our approach to solution design, planning and financial evaluation of opportunities as well as spending time with our construction and operations teams.
The role will be based in Greenock, but Forsa operates a flexible working process. We will consider a remote location, however there will be a requirement to attend the office on a regular basis as required by the role.
Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Business or relevant related discipline.
- A strong track record and knowledge of utility scale UK energy projects development is essential.
- Must have a proven track record of identifying, securing and assembling a portfolio of renewable energy and/or energy storage projects in the UK.
- Experience in budget management and the specification and formal procurement of contracts for new projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management, relationship building and communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise at all levels; from landowners, general public, local authorities, statutory bodies, contractors to senior managers.
- Sound knowledge of legislation and Best Practice Guidance governing the panning, permitting and development of utility scale energy projects in the UK.
- There will be an expectation to travel on a regular basis to other offices and sites outside of your base location.
