We are currently recruiting for a Senior Internal Auditor to join Portakabin. This is a key role that will work closely with the Head of Risk & Internal Audit to develop a best-in-class internal audit function, deliver the internal audit plan and develop leading audit practices across the business. The role holder will deliver allocated elements of the internal audit plan in a timely and cost-effective manner, whilst raising audit actions which are pragmatic and risk focused, but relevant to Portakabin. You will identify the key risks within the business processes covered by each internal audit activity, the current controls, any gaps (or missing controls) and the business impact of these, suggesting improvements in controls as well as identifying areas of good practice from within the business and from other businesses. Role Details

  • Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum plus annual bonus 10% OTE – 20%
  • Role based: York, YO32
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays

Role Responsibilities

  • To deliver internal audit reports per the agreed internal audit plan, with the reports being insightful, risk based and aligned with how the business perceives the risk
  • Provide advice, support, guidance & assurance to the business, which might be in the form of formal advisory reports
  • Oversee planning of the various internal audits is key – from initial conversations with the business, to fieldwork, to reporting of the draft findings and proposed actions to the business. The delivery of the internal audit plan to the agreed timetable is critical to improve confidence and assurance in the Internal Audit function with the Audit Committee/ Board
  • Ensure open actions are visible and actioned on time. This will include an element of advising the business on the sustainability of the activity to close the action(s)
  • Make key decisions e.g. on whether an action to address the residual risk is high, medium or low priority, and then whether the evidence presented to mitigate the risk is sufficient to close the action
  • Assess different options to mitigate the identified risks, both researching good practice internally, but also looking externally for good practice from other firms, Big 4 accounting practices and from the internal audit or risk management institutes/ associations

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has:

  • Qualification in Accounting, risk or auditing (2+ yrs post qualification)
  • Experience in delivering financial and non-financial internal audit reports
  • Great stakeholder management/ gaining trust of others
  • High attention to detail & deadline oriented
  • A proactive self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to summarise complex issues/ findings
  • Objectivity and ability to challenge norms
  • Ideally finance and non-finance knowledge or experience
