SALARY: £23,515-£29,515pa

QRS are working on behalf of Peterborough College and are looking for a Plumbing and Heating Assessor to join the Apprenticeship Academy team on a full-time permanent basis.

The Employer Services and Apprenticeship Academy provides apprenticeship programmes across a number of different subject areas to meet the requirements of employers within Peterborough, Stamford and the surrounding areas. The Skills Trainer/Assessor role plays a crucial part in supporting the achievement of apprentices undertaking the following plumbing and heating apprenticeship programmes in the main:

  • Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician (new apprenticeship standard)

The role involves working flexibly to meet the assessment, training, skills and behavioural development needs of apprentices both in College and at employer sites at varying times throughout the learning programme as required.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, coaching and mentoring support to apprentices and work-based learners in the relevant apprenticeship framework or apprenticeship standard to achieve timely success.
  • Responsible for an agreed case-load of apprentices/work-based learners and developing, planning and delivering quality assessments to meet the requirements of the qualification.
  • Accurately undertake necessary documentation and processes as associated with apprenticeship/work-based learning programmes to ensure that the Peterborough College provision remains compliant with funding agency rules.
  • Champion success by overseeing all contributors to the individual’s learning plan, gathering feedback on performance and using this to inform a detailed progress review with clear targets and action to support learner achievement of their short and long term goals.
  • To regularly collaborate with relevant Colleagues, reporting progress to highlight potential risks of non-achievement and applying interventions as appropriate to mitigate risks.
  • To maintain accurate records (paper or electronic) of; assessment; employer and learner activity; and learner achievement, compliant with funding rules, awarding organisation and College guidelines.
  • To visit apprentices and work-based learners at agreed regular intervals to ensure timely progression towards learning aims and agree and review appropriate actions related to development of knowledge, skills and behaviours.

The person & qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 qualification or above within at least one relevant vocational industry, in addition to a Level 3 Assessment & Quality Assurance qualification or equivalent. However, we welcome applications from professionals who are looking to become qualified assessors and who are willing to achieve this qualification.

The working hours for this role are Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

Site Engineer – Must have Temporary Works experience

You will need to have previous experience with a similar style project. There is a lot of temporary works on this job so previous experience here is a must and you must have either a Temp works coordinator or supervisor’s ticket.

The Project:

A £200 Million Residential superstructure will provide 462 apartments within seven new blocks. The tallest block, on the corner of West Cromwell and Warwick Road, rises to 33-storeys, making it one of the tallest buildings in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea!

The new-build blocks are founded on top of an existing multi-storey car park, which will remain operational during the significant strengthening and alteration works needed to existing structure.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Review the programme/ tracker programme, read the ERs and familiarise yourself with the project, requirements, the specifications and the project drawings.
  • Understand who the sub- contractors are, make sure they have a competent manger who understands the drawings and specification. Identify long lead in items, and place order accurately and on-time.
  • Accurate setting out of the works and dimensional control.
  • Resolve technical problems at all levels.
  • Carry out inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan in a timely manner.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated, in date and suitably checked in accordance with company policies and the manufacturers’ defined requirements.
  • Ensure the site diary is accurately maintained noting against each record the date, location and serial number of equipment used.
  • Maintain accurate QA, photograph all works to meet the ACL requirements, NHBC building control and your QA system. All QA forms must be updated and located in the Site Managers office for inspection by all. All QA sheets must be signed and dated. Inspect the skills of the labour / tradesmen, making sure you are satisfied with the workmanship, material used and efficiency of work and sign off on their works at the end of each task and prior to the sub-contractor leaving site. You must review and confirm that the consultant’s drawings are all coordinated and mistakes / errors in drawings are highlighted and advised to the responsible consultant prior to setting out and construction.

We’re Looking For:

  • An Engineering degree
  • Chartered member of ICE
  • NHBC Standards
  • Building Regulations (including Part B)
  • Temporary Works Co-ordinator
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position with a main contractor
